Multiple end-of-the-Year Awards received by KORDI

 

At the close of 2011, a number of different groups host award ceremonies. The Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute (President, Kang, Jeung-geuk) is proud to announce the awards it received for the year 2011 in the areas of social contribution, institutional assessment, publishing, etc.

 

On December 22, the Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute received the Minister Award for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the "Annual City-Village Fishery Exchange Awards" ceremony, which was hosted at the headquarters of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives. The award was given in recognition of the Institute's meritorious contributions to the vitalization of exchanges between cities and village fisheries. (Photo 1) The "Annual City-Village Fishery Exchange Awards" are presented each year by the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives to selected industries, groups, and individuals who have made efforts to build a mutually-sustaining basis for the advancement of the mutual interests of cities and rural fisheries.

Prior to that, at the "2011 Awards for Science and Technological Creativity" held on December 19th at Seoul Press Center, KORDI received a Prime Minister's Award in commendation for its pioneering developments in science and technology. (Photo 2) The Awards for Science and Technological Creativity are presented by Korean research foundations to organizations chosen for their promotion of creativity in all fields related to scientific technology. Last July, the Republic of Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute was lauded for its research to develop a world-class "underwater wireless communication network technology."

 

Other awards were also received in November. At the "2011 International Business Awards (IBA) hosted on November 28th at the Seoul Press Center, the Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute received awards in two fields (Annual Environmental Stewardship Program Division (Asia region) / Category for Annual Communications and Promotional Campaign) for the Institute's newsletter "SEE the SEA." On November 29th, the 2010 Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute Annual was selected as "Best in Publishing" (Republic of Korea Newsletter Association's Chairman's Award) at the 2011 Republic of Korea Communications Awards.

 

In October, the Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute's Marine Science Library

was honored as a "Superior Library" at the "National 2011 Library Operational Assessment" conducted by the Presidential Dept. of Library and Information Policy Committee and the National Library of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, for which it received a Prime Minister's Award. In the evaluations, which are divided into the categories of 'Professional', 'Public', 'School', 'Military', and 'Prison', the Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute's Marine Science Library was honored for its excellence as a "Professional library."

 

According to a spokesperson for the Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute, " KORDI has not only spearheaded the development of scientific technologies as a government-funded research institution, but has also devoted itself to various outreach activities, and will continue to serve as a model institution through the steady propagation of marine science culture by pursuing social contributions and producing high-level publications."
