The purpose of the memorandum is to establish a cooperative framework between the two institutes in the field of ocean science and technology.

The signing ceremony was held as part of World Ocean Forum 2018 and was attended by KIOST President Kim Woong-Seo, NIOF President Suzan Kholief, and about 20 ocean science and technology experts from both South Korea and Egypt.
With this newly signed MOU, the two organizations have agreed to establish a cooperative framework across all research areas in the field of ocean science and technology, including technology transfers, research personnel exchanges, technological information exchanges, and research projects.

KIOST President Kim Woong-Seo remarked, “We hope that this research cooperation, which includes the ODA projects that the Korean government is currently pursuing, will help the NIOF improve its research capacity and technological capabilities and contribute to local communities.”
