KIOST hosts Arbor Day Tree-Planting Event

The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST, President Kang Do-hyung) held a tree-planting event in commemoration of the 78th Arbor Day in the outdoor grounds in front of the Administration Building at KIOST’s Busan headquarters on April 4, 2023. President Kang Do-hyung, Comptroller General Kim Ssang Woo , and some 100 employees attended the event, where they planted one pine tree and 1,400 rhododendron shrubs.
KIOST conducts various research projects to preserve the marine environment and respond to climate change and actively participates in daily campaigns to help protect the environment. The tree-planting event was organized to improve the environment of the headquarters grounds and foster employees’ interest in environmental preservation. KIOST will continue to plant landscaping trees on the grounds and build walking trails to create a pleasant forest environment that matches the surrounding seascape, creating a space for both local residents and employees to enjoy.
President Kang said, “Arbor Day is an important day to contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality through forests and reflect on the importance of global environmental issues such as climate change. KIOST will take the lead in solving global challenges such as climate change through marine science and by taking small actions to preserve the global environment.
